Jay Raj Indian Cuisine
Nestled right along Hitchin Road in Stopsley, Luton, Jay Raj Indian Cuisine is the kind of place that feels like a hidden gem-but with flavors that make you want to shout about it from the rooftops. From the moment you step into this welcoming Indian restaurant at 636 Hitchin Rd, Luton LU2 7UG, you're greeted not just by the aromatic embrace of spices but by an atmosphere that blends casual dining with rich culinary heritage. Whether you're popping in for a cozy solo dinner or planning a laid-back night with friends, this spot hits all the right notes.
What sets Jay Raj apart from the usual curry houses around Luton isn’t just the range of dishes-it’s the balance of boldness and subtlety in their cooking. The Tandoori Mixed Grill is a serious crowd-pleaser. It’s a sizzling, smoky celebration of marinated meats, each piece grilled to perfection. The Chicken Tikka, a must-have classic, boasts tender, juicy chunks bathed in that deep-red marinade that’s unmistakably Jay Raj. Pair it with their Butter Naan or go for a Tandoori Roti if you're leaning towards something lighter.
Then there’s the Lamb Achari, delivering a tangy punch thanks to its pickled spice blend-a perfect dish for those who like a little zing in their bite. Vegetarians aren't left behind either. The kitchen here shines just as bright when it comes to vegan and vegetarian dishes, with options like Sag and coconut chutney served in generous, comforting portions.
And let’s talk about biryani-because the Chicken Tikka Biryani here is a 10/10 (and yes, that’s how it’s listed). It’s fragrant, beautifully layered, and served with raita that ties the whole experience together. If you’re a fan of heat, the Vindaloo doesn’t hold back. But if you prefer something a bit more mellow and creamy, the Butter Makhani delivers richness without overpowering.
Jay Raj also caters to those late-night cravings, offering halal, organic, and healthy options till the later hours. The variety doesn't stop at mains. They’ve got small plates, coffee, and even spirits and wine, rounding off the experience in style. Speaking of drinks, they’ve got a solid selection from beer to Magners Irish Cider-perfect alongside spicy bites or just to unwind after a long day.
The restaurant's charm isn’t just about what’s on the plate. Accessibility is clearly a priority, with a wheelchair-accessible car park, entrance, and seating-a detail not every restaurant gets right, but one that matters immensely. For those who prefer enjoying their meals at home, Jay Raj offers no-contact delivery, standard delivery, and takeaway options, making it incredibly easy to enjoy authentic Indian flavors wherever you are.
Now if you’re in the mood for something a bit different, try the Tandoori King Prawn-succulent and smoky with just the right spice-and don’t sleep on the Chicken Pathia with Keema Naan (garlic and coriander included for that extra kick). Those with a sweet tooth will appreciate how this place doesn’t forget dessert. The Mousse au Chocolat brings a touch of elegance to the end of your meal, while options like omelette and couscous add an international twist to the otherwise traditionally Indian menu.
Everything about Jay Raj Indian Cuisine-from its thoughtful menu curation to its laid-back yet attentive service-feels like a love letter to Indian cooking. It doesn’t try to reinvent the wheel, but rather perfects what it sets out to do. If you’re in Luton and craving bold, satisfying Indian cuisine that doesn’t cut corners, this place is a no-brainer.
Whether you’re in it for the tandoori, the biryani, or just a warm cup of coffee with something spicy on the side, Jay Raj delivers every time.
Reviews
A highly rated curry house located in the heart of Luton always helps when making a choice of where to visit for an evening meal when visiting. Staff were very accommodating and eager to please with quick service offered. A good menu choice offered with flexibility to mix and match items as required. As to the layout, standard curry house, but tables were clean and food was served in good time and hot. Overall a deserved high rating as food offered good flavour at a reasonable price price
The food was very flavoursome, the spices were spot on and we were served fairly quickly. I was expecting the homemade samosas as compared to the spring roll pastry samosas we were served as part of our starters. It would have been nice to specify this on the menu. I would recommend the saag panir, lamb bhuna, chicken karahi and potato curry served with naan bread. The staff were very friendly and customer service was excellent.
Very friendly welcoming, the waiters were very attentive and made the ordering process very comfortable, they made recommendations and slight alterations to my tastes! Clean establishment and an enjoyable evening. Would definitely be a venue i would recommend for great food and great atmosphere
Due to a recommendation of a colleague, we have been there. Best decision. Great service, amazing food - fresh, hot, delicious. Would come back again any time.
